We were engaged to experimentally assess the performance of Helifix’s Bowtie system for use in the seismic upgrade of buildings. Our role was to design and undertake an experimental program and to prepare design guidelines for use by practicing engineers. The pull out capacity of Helifix BowTie when installed to connect unreinforced masonry walls and timber diaphragm joists was determined through an extensive program, which included laboratory based and onsite tension testing of BowTie system.
The guidelines were developed, which were subsequently published. The following are few photographs of the testing.
